A thoughtful curation by Freya Rose
Christmas shopping in Southsea has become a treasure hunt through independent stores, from Marmion Road to Castle Road to Albert Road, it’s full of charm and intrigue. I love how Marmion Road has transformed over the past few years into a hub of independent and creative shops, each bursting with personality, warmth, and thoughtful gifts, from handmade jewellery and natural skincare to unique homeware, toys, and artisan treats.
Palmerston Road, the Dockyard, and the Cathedral Christmas Market also host independent traders, creating a festive scene that feels vibrant and alive.
What I love most is the sense of community; it feels village-like, as though everyone is part of the same joyful celebration. For me, wandering through Southsea at Christmas isn’t just about finding the perfect gift, it’s about soaking up the festive spirit and supporting the people who make our town so wonderfully special.
Here are my top ‘Support Independents’ ideas this Christmas:
1. For Women Who Love to Pamper
Goly handmakes the most beautiful soaps, face, and body creams — they look and smell good enough to eat! Using pure, skin-loving ingredients and no microplastics or fillers, Goly products are all-natural and made with love. Find her on Marmion Road or at the Palmerston Road Market.
2. Thoughtful Stocking Fillers & Small Gifts – ARTHOUSE Unlimited at Coastal Remedy Marmion Road

For meaningful little treasures that make a big difference, look no further than ARTHOUSE Unlimited products at Coastal Remedy. ARTHOUSE celebrates the talents of artists living with learning and physical disabilities, transforming their joyful designs into beautiful products, from artisan chocolates and candles to soaps and stationery. Coastal Remedy, inspired by owner Becky’s personal health journey, is a haven of wellness and mindful living, full of handpicked gifts that soothe the soul.
3. For Mums – Blossom Boutique’s

Handmade Christmas centrepieces are a beautifully personal touch for the woman who has everything. Marmion Road.
4. For Your Partner – Jewellery on Marmion & Palmerston Road

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to jewellery in Southsea. Visit Barbara Tipple and Charlotte Cornelius for exquisite craftsmanship, or pop into our Freya Rose shop on Palmerston Road, our new birthstone necklace has been incredibly popular this season!
5. For Him – Head to Southsea Local

I always struggle to buy for my partner, but Southsea Local never fails. Their handmade marmalade and macaroons make perfect, delicious stocking fillers, small, simple, and made with care.
6. For kids – Little Loves Apparel & Edith and Blanche, Marmion Road

For little ones, I always head to Little Loves Apparel, who will be at the Dockyard Market this Christmas. Their handmade clothes and pyjamas are made from soft organic cotton in bold, playful prints. I get a set for my little girl every year and pick the print myself. They wash beautifully and stay super soft.

For more variety, Edith and Blanche, on Marmion Road, offer a delightful selection of kids’ clothes and toys, carefully curated to be both stylish and practical. Their pieces are unique, charming, and perfect for making Christmas morning extra special.
