Last month, The Omega Art School for adults, opened its second, highly successful annual exhibition at The Jack House Gallery in Old Portsmouth. “The exhibition highlighted the wide variety of mediums we teach, from watercolour, printmaking, collage and oils and it was lovely for our students to see their work hung in a professional gallery and achieve sales. With increasing enrolments each term, from complete beginners to more experienced artists, the school has become a really exciting, creative hub,” said Kevin Dean, who began the school about 4 years ago.
“So many people haven’t drawn or painted since their school days, but have always had an ambition to become more creative. Making art at home can be a good place to start, but the lack of direction and feedback soon becomes frustrating. Our carefully structured 10-week courses, delivered by empathetic artist/tutors provides students with practical skills and focus. A lot of people come to us, feeling that they are not good enough to join an art course, but once they get started and realise we can all tap into our creativity, they forge ahead with growing confidence.”
The summer term, starting April 22nd offers two Preliminary courses, on Monday evenings or Tuesday mornings, perfect for absolute beginners. There are also various other courses, at different levels, for people who feel they know the basics.
