With the best weather around the corner, there is no better way to get around and explore the greater Portsmouth area than by bike. With a pedal-assist electric bike, you can go further for longer and enjoy the fresh air at a leisurely pace.
Traffic-free cycle paths allow riders to avoid the hustle and bustle of the City with some lovely rides along the Hilsea Lines and promenade, and the expansion of cycle lanes along the eastern road to the Hayling ferry, where you can link up with the Hayling Billy Cycle Trail, an easy 5 mile off-road trip.
Exploring further afield is easy from Portsmouth. Take a ferry over to the Isle of Wight, where you can comfortably ride around the island in a day or travel across the channel and ride the Normandy coast, staying in charming villages and rewarding yourself with the lovely cuisine en route. Most electric bikes should give you a range of 80 miles plus from a single charge, so there is really no excuse for not getting out there this summer. Try a bike out at the Cycle World demo event on the 31st May at the Mountbatten Centre.
